Stop Killing Cyclists stages a 'die-in' at the Treasury to seek funding switch after week of casualties

A 'Stop Killing Cyclists' die-in protest was staged outside the Treasury at the weekend to seek an increase in expenditure on cycling infrastructure to Dutch levels.

The group said that current spending plans will reduce the cycling budget to less than £1 per person in England, which it compared to "the Dutch investment of about £24 per person per year". The protest came in a week that three cyclists and two pedestrians died on London's roads. A spokesperson for the protest said that a lack of protected cycle lanes also meant more people driving, adding to pollution, and called for 5% of the transport budget to immediately be allocated to cycling projects, and gradually rising to 20%.

The Evening Standard in the capital reported that hundreds of people attended the protest after "a week of carnage".
