The North East Combined Authority has put itself on a collision course with bus operators by approving plans to introduce a bus Quality Contract Scheme (QCS) in Tyne and Wear.
Following the decision, Newcastle City Council leader Nick Forbes said the QCS presented the best option for increasing passenger numbers; protecting important but less profitable routes; preserving concessionary fares benefits; and providing an easier to use bus network for passengers.
