Clamping of vehicles on private land is to be banned in England and Wales, the government has announced. The ban will be introduced in the Freedom Bill in November, and is likely to come into force next year once it gains Royal Assent.
Those who flout the ban could face severe fines and even a prison sentence. Licences currently issued by the Security Industry Authority (SIA) to individual clamping operatives, supervisors and directors will be revoked.
