“Mobile devices have already transformed the way we speak to and message each other and the next ten years will see mobile change the way we actually travel,” says travel consultant Jeremy Acklam. “By 2020, the majority of people will use their mobile device as their travel assistant, whether it’s for planning and booking a trip or finding out whether the route to work is going to get them there on time.” New independent customer services will support these activities and updates from travellers will provide real-time social network feedback, Acklam adds. “Customer reviews are the new power in the hotel industry, they’ll become just as important in changing travel,” he suggests. “Power to the people certainly, and that power will shape not only their individual real-time travel choices but also the development of the transport networks themselves.”
Jeremy Acklam will be speaking at the Travel 2020 Exhibition and Conference on the 29-30 September. Register to attend at Travel2020.co.uk
