Growth in demand for rail travel during the summer months has risen to levels witnessed on only a handful of occasions in the last decade, according to new analysis published this week.

The figures from the Association of Train Operating Companies show that passenger journeys grew by 8% in Quarter 3 of the calendar year of 2010 when compared to the same period last year.
