Reform, Lib Dems and Greens target council gains as Labour and Conservative on defensive

English local elections will be held on 1 May for around 1,650 council seats. All seats on 14 county councils and eight unitary authorities will be contested.

They will be the first tests at the polls since last year’s General Election. The Runcorn and Helsby parliamentary by-election will be held on the same day.
