20mph campaigners use facts but drivers rely on hunch

It’s interesting to compare and contrast two letters in the last issue – those from Anna Semlyen of 20’s Plenty for Us and Nigel Humphries of the Alliance of British Drivers (Letters LTT 19 Dec 13).

Anna, arguing persuasively for a national default 20mph speed limit in urban areas, backs her case quoting data and evidence, such as 73% of Britons want it. 

Nigel, on the other hand, backs his case for increasing road space to improve cycle safety (yes really!) by anecdote...
