The Government is setting up a UK Transport Research and Innovation Board (TRIB) to co-ordinate activity by the UK’s major research organisations.
The DfT is working with the Government Office for Science – part of the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) – to create the board.
Says the DfT: “The TRIB would help identify research and innovation priorities and coordinate the disparate transport research and innovation activities across the UK to achieve a more strategic and joined-up programme of work that can directly support the Government’s transport ambitions.
“This would help us develop a more strategic approach to supporting transport research and innovation activity and create a direct line of sight between the priorities of DfT and BEIS ministers and the research community.”
The TRIB will work with other government departments, the new UKRI (UK Research and Innovation), Research Councils, and other major research and supplier organisations.
UKRI is due to be launched next April, and will bring together the seven Research Councils, Innovate UK, and the research and knowledge exchange functions of the Higher Education Funding Council for England.
