I read Mr Walker’s letter about Bath’s 20mph speed limits with interest (LTT 9 Jun). I think he is correct about the importance of setting the speed limit at the 85th percentile speed, or close to it. However, his position that the 85th percentile speed is comfortable and safe for motorists does not take into account that the 85th percentile speed is neither safe nor comfortable for more vulnerable road users, in particular cyclists.
